The Wanderer 001 Pepe Jijón - Ecuador
Limited Quantity
Finca Soledad, Ecuador | Sidra, Natural
Multidimensional, Spicy, Bold.
The fifth character in our Profile Series, The Wanderer is based on the producer Pepe himself. Featuring as our first Alchemist, we stayed in regular contact and talked coffee, climbing, the world and literature - Pepe mentioned Nietzsche, the inspiration for the farm name La Soledad and Thus Spoke Zarathustra, so we have adapted this to form our own Wanderer for Macondo.
The Wanderer is Pepe's place to shine, dive deep into his experiments and explore - we wanted to truly represent him as part of our coffee family with his own label and each year we will be sharing not only his coffees but his most recent adventures.
Sidra has long been one of our favourite varieties, so we're excited to have one from La Soledad. This Sidra lot is wild, part micro-climate, part variety, part processing - Pepe has shown what's possible when everything comes together just right.

Finca Soledad is an 8 hectare lot in the Intag Valley, on the Cotacachi Cayapas Reserve. Our producer Pepe Jijon is a Brazil born ex-professional climber, with a deep passion for economic and environmental sustainability for Ecuador. Pepe is very personable, and he's bonded with partners throughout the supply chain, his goal is making sure these coffees are understood, with the right context. He is the single most enthusiastic coffee lover I've ever come across, and his energy is super inspiring!
Sidra (or Sydra) is an award-winning variety, a hybrid of Red Bourbon and Typica. Originating from the Pichincha region in Ecuador (just south of Inbabura, where Pepe is based). Carrying the sweetness and the body of Red Bourbon and the bright taste and acidity of Typica - Macondo & Friends find Sidra can present super complex aromatics, and velvety (silk but thick and layered) body. Sidra seems to carry well in all processes and tend to make very high scoring cups.
Aroma & Fragrance | Complex, floral, ginger blossom, tropical fruit, bergamot, oak and spice. |
Taste & Aftertaste | Orange peel, muscat grape, shiraz wine, cacao nib, bergamot, tangerine, amber honey and spice. |
